Reunion in Nepal
NZPA-Reuter Katmandu Nepal will invite all 56 climbers who have reached the summit of Mount Everest to take part in celebrations in May marking the first ascent of the world’s highest mountain 25 years ago. It will sponsor a week-long programme of celebrations from May 25 to 31 to mark the first conquest of the 8848 m (29,028 ft peak by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on May 29, 1953. So far, 54 men and two women have scaled Everest. Sir Edmund Hillary said in Auckland, however, that he expected to be in Wales for a British celebration of the anniversary on May 25.
