Situation: A depression is moving quickly eastwards to the south of New Zealand; the associated front will pass over the Cook Strait area and the east of the North Island during the day followed by a south-westerly airstream; an anticyclone near Tasmania is spreading eastwards into the Tasman Sea. Forecasts: Canterbury: South-west-erlies, fresh in exposed coastal places, and cloudy skies and some showers this morning, but fair periods increasing during the afternoon; lighter

winds inland with mainly fine weather and mild afternoon temperatures. Marlborough, Nelson: Southwesterlies prevailing by mid-morning, fresh in exposed places; some showers about the Marlborough coast, but clearing weather elsewhere; moderate temperatures. Buller, Westland: Moderate locally fresh south-west-erlies; showers clearing slowly and the weather becoming fine; moderate temperatures. Outlook: Some showers in South Westland; fair elsewhere.
