Rubber union ballot
Members of the Canterbury Rubber Workers Union voted at a stop-work meetling in Christchurch yesterIday to hold their own ballot |on compulsory union membership. A similar move was taken by the Canterbury Drivers Union last year, and resulted in a strong majority in favour of retaining an unqualified preference clause in the award, making it virtually compulsory for drivers to join the union. The Rubber Workers’ Union ballot wilj be held soon, ahead of one which the Government is believed to have proposed for the union under its compulsoryballots legislation.
