Reduced penalty for C. Devine
The Templeton trainer, Ceci! Devine, will be able to resume race driving behind Tiny Time in the Timaru Cup. a race to be run at Washdyke at 530 p.m. on Saturday, as -a result of a decision by the emergency committee o f the executive of the Trotting Conference in Christchurch vesterday.
Devine sought a review of the suspension of his horseman's licence until after March 10 imposed after the running of the Ballins Industries Celebrity Stakes at the New Brighton meeting at Addington Raceway last Saturday.
Devine was found guilty of failing to obey the instructions of the starter, Mr R. Carter, and failing to take up his correct position
■behind the mobil barrier. 11 The official finding of the review said: “After hearing : the parties concerned and viewing a film of the start 11 of this event, the emergency committee of the conference, acting as a sub-committee of the executive, and considering all of the circumstances, reduced the suspension until 5 p.m. Saturday, February 25.’’ The committee also conl sidered that there is inconsistency between the penal- | ties referred to in the reguI lations governing mobile i starting and the relative (Rule of Trotting (265) under which Devine was charged I and will immediately have this aspect referred to the | rules sub-committee of the conference for its considI eration
