Look to next jamboree
The venue for the next national scout jamboree, to be held in 1981, will probably be a small North Island town.
Jamborees in small towns have beer, very successful, according to the national president of the Scout Association (Air Vice-Marshal I. G, Morrison). The third Asia-Pacific Jamboree, held recently at Oamaru, had benefited the community as well as the scout movement, he said. The scouts had developed a scenic reserve and prepared for the establishment of a miniature railwav in the town’s public gardens. “Oamaru proved to be an ideal venue for such a gathering, as did Tokoroa three years previously. We already have quite a list of towns wanting to stage the 1981 Jamboree,” he said.
