Engineers’ president
The General Manager of the Electricity Department, Mr P. W. Blakeley, has been elected president of the Institution of Engineers for 1978. Mr Blakeley began working in 1931 as an apprentice with the Wangan u i-Rangitikei Electric Power Board. He has been employed by the Electricity Department since 1939, and in 1972 became general manager. Mr Blakeley was an executive vice-president of the Institution of Engineers betwmen 1969 and 1971. He had played an active part in the administration of the institution’s Wellington branch in the early 19605. The vice-president of the N.Z.I.E. for 1978 is Mr D. A. Thom, a principal of the consulting engineering firm of Kingston, Reynolds, Thom, and Allardice, in Auckland.
