Scientology protest
PA Auckland Ministers and followers' of the Church of Scientology of New Zealand held a peaceful demonstration outside the office of the honorary French Consul in Auckland yesterday morning. The protest was against the “religious persecution” of the Church’s founderleader, Mr L. R. Hubbard, who was tried in absentia in Paris last wefek. A deputation of three
met the honorary consul (Mr L. W. Brown, Q.C.) and presented him with a letter of protest and asked him to convey it to the French Government. Hubbard was sentenced to four years jail and fined about SNZ6BOO for fraudulently obtaining funds. He is also wanted in the United States for tax evasion, and is not allowed into Britain. He reportedly lives aboard si luxury yacht.
