New firm to market caravans
PA Wellington A new caravan marketing organisation which aims to sell about half of all caravans produced in New Zealand, was launched at a meeting in Wellington. The United Caravan Corporation has been set up by the Wellington-based Anthony group of companies with Crossans Caravans, of Auckland and the Christchurch Caravan Centre, to market several manufacturers’ caravans. The managing-director of the Anthony group (Mr Peter Wise) said the caravan industry was suffering from lack of sales and needed a “major shot in the arm.” The corporation would be the largest caravan marketing organisation in New Zealand . and would be able to offer customers a range of about 50 makes. About 8000 caravans were sold in 1977, and almost half of these were handled by two major firms. Mr Wise said the corporation would try to export caravans to Australia. The new corporation would be launched with a six-figure promotional budget.
