Supporters in cricket form

The Supporters club’s win over Suburban A. with one ball to be bowled in the last over of play, and with the last two batsmen at the crease, was the highlight of last night’s eleventh-round games in "The Press” twilight cricket competition. Suburban batted first and scored 107 runs for the loss of seven wickets in its allotment of overs. Supporters scored at just over five an over to record the win.

The Supporters batsman, Robert Walker, won the Cedarwood man-of-the-match award for his efforts in helping his team to victory with a well compiled 22. He took a wicket as well and effected three dismissals in the field, including one run out.

Other Cedarwood awards went to Brent Small (Old Boys), Richard Leggatt (Old Collegians), Paul Hammant (Riccarton), Tony Collins (Lancaster Park), and Wayne Higgins (Sydenham). Hammant won the Lion Breweries player-ofthe-week award, too, with his 38 ret. and three wickets for 10 runs against bottom placed Marist. High School Old Boys cruised to a comfortable win against the side Just one place above Marist, Suburban Colts. Old Boys made 125 for four, while Colts could only manage 59 for seven.

Dave Dempsey (Lancaster Park) cracked 29 from a lacklustre East-Shirley attack to maintain his fourth spot in the table of leading run-getters, with an overall total of 241.

He currently trails John Davies (Burnside-West. 300), Geoff Smith (St Albans, 266), and Lindsay Thorne (Riccarton, 246). After Dempsey Is his club-mate, Stuart Cameron (230). and the Burnside captain. Colin Blackman. and another Park man, Collins (both 216).
