Spinks gets big offer
NZPA-Reuter Johannesburg South African promoters moved quickly after Muhammad All’s defeat yesterday and have offered the new world heavyweight champion, Leon Spinks, SUSI.SM to defend his title in Johannesburg before June. His opponent would be either the South African supreme heavy-weight champion, Gerrie Goetzee, or the Pretoria policeman. Kallle Knetze, who knocked out the world-ranked American, Duane Bobick, earlier this month. Both fighters are white. The offer to Spinks was cabled by Maurice Toweel, a Johannesburg matchmaker, only a few hours after the 24-year-old Spinks ended Alt's reign. Towel! said that in case he could not get Spinks, he had also cabled All offering him SUSIM for a 10 or 20 round contest against either of the South Africans, also by June.
