Rangitikei by-election
Sir, —A third voice in the House, with the eloquence of an articulate public speaker, advocating a policy of lowered interest rates with resultant decreased taxation coupled with sufficient cheaper housing finance, and incentives to the manufacturer and the farmer, is to be welcomed rather than an
aggressive politician who says much amounting to nothing, punctuated by illchosen personal attacks. Though many recent articles merely draw attention to Bruce Beetham’s excellent personality, which is a worthy attribute in matters of Parliamentary debate, no mention is made of his proved ability. He rose to leadership, not through ambition, but through sound logical debate and political ability. This would be insufficient but for his academic qualifications as a university lecturer in political science, holding a master’s degree with honours, in both philosophy and history. This solid background must surely inspire confidence in the elector as well as create a strong public image.—Yours, etc., LOUISE MOORE. February 14, 1978.
