Journalist and politics
Sir, —But a few months ago statements were made by the senior TVI management publicly that a man’s politics, in such a position as that of John Knowles, would not affect the possibility of his returning to that position unencumbered. Does senior management talk with forked tongues, or has a new directive been handed down? What, freedom is there for the man or woman who would take John Knowles’s place knowing how they got it? Christchurch and New Zealand cannot afford to misuse the talents of men of John Knowles’ journalistic calibre and integrity. Not every good man, or good woman, gets selected for a political party but one wonders whether the integrity of all the business people, school teachers, trade unionists, supervisors, journalists, lawyers, etc., who stood for any party were, or are, equally being victimised.— Yours, etc., Graeme Stanley.
