Wiltshire saves Auckland
PA Auckland An epic last-ball century by John Wiltshire saved Auckland from complete disaster on the first day of the Shell Series Cricket match against Wellington at Eden Park yesterday. Wiltshire came to the wicket when Auckland was in great trouble at 47 for five wickets, and left with 100 not out and the Auckland score 236 for eight at the end of the 75 overs.
In the remaining 105 minutes Auckland regained further ground by dismissing Graham Newdick and John Morrison as the Wellington score went to 40 for two wickets, but with Bruce Edgar 17 not out and promising more runs on a plumb pitch today.
