RECORD FOR ROYDON SCOTT
Roydon Scott created a new New Zealand mile winning record for a three-year-old when he won the E. F. Mercer Mile in Imin 58.95. The previous best was Imin 59.75, shared by Belmer’s Image and Smokey Lonez. Bv breaking the record. Roydon Scott earned his Wellington owner, Mr Roy McKenzie, a bonus of $lOOO. The win was the most important gained bv Fred Fletcher as a trainerdriver. Roydon Scott soon settled in front, with Jayex in the open. Roydon Scott did not look like being headed, and he outclassed Jayex by a length and a half. Motu Prince had every chance and battled on for third, half a length back, with the same margin to Timely Robin. The hot favourite. Lord Module, forced three wide in the middle part, made a dab near the end and was fifth, clear of Harley, Kabase and Main Star, which broke inside the last 400 m.
