Women elected to Jockey Club
XZPA-Reuter London The Jockey Club, the ruling body of British racing, has announced in London that it will admit women to membership for the first time since it was founded 225 years ago. Three women have been elected, the Countess ol Halifax, Mrs Priscilla Hastings and Mrs Helen John-son-Houghton.

Women trainers W'ere f first recognised in 1966, the ■ first girl jockeys came six - years later, and women stewards last year.
