HAPPY ATMOSPHERE
"Make sure the first movement is the ciub on the back -wing: avoid dipping the left knee and avoid excessive hip movement.” These were the words of the little Englishman, Maurice Bentbridge, who. in company with Bob Charles. Bil] Bi-a.sk, Barry Vivian. Terry Kendall and Bob Byman. was holding a golf clinic at the Waitikiri course last week. Organised by Air Xew Zealand the tuition course was for the benefit of commercial clients of the airlines firm, and the six professionals in attendance were happy to offer tips and wind down after the Otago Charity Classic For those fortunate enough to receive an invitation to the clinic and for those who just happened to be at Waitikiri at the right time, if was an educational experience. In a light-hearted atmosphere. the professionals. with Bentbridge and Brask constantly jesting. told and demonstrated how the game of golf should and could be played It looked so simple: Brask led off with several smoothly-struck wedge shots: Kendall hit a 7-iron where the average golfer would put his drive: Byman almost $5OOO richer after his second placing in the Otago tournament thumped his wood shots prodigious distances: Bentbridge. with an embedded ball. p. winded 4wood shots with rite same simplicity as if the h; 'll was teed up; Vivjgtf demonstrated renowned strength wifr irons, and ' harles act inM golf — he how to fade and a baE hov. to hit a io' 1 and high shot. lite congregation was • .
practice what they had witnessed. For such accomplished amateurs as Ross Murray. Andrew Robinson and Stuart Smith it was no trouble to do the correct and proper thing But for
those with longer handicaps, the story was the same. In spite of the expert advice, the slices, hooks, topped shots and unbalanced swing continued.
