Radio band squeeze
PA Wellington The present transmission frequencies of most New Zealand radio stations would be changed on November 23 next year, said the PostmasterGeneral (Mr Wilkinson). The channel spacing in the medium-frequency broadcasting band is being reduced from 10 khz to 9khz — which will mean stations are closer together. "In most areas the changes in frequency will hardly be noticed, but the change for some stations will be significant. Further publicity about these changes will be released later,” said Mr Wilkinson. The change was taking place throughout Europe, Asia, and the Pacific because of the need for a common channelling fre--1 quency plan, he said.
“More channels will be able to be accommodated within the medium frequency broadcasting band in New Zealand, and this will allow better use of the band.”
