Churches in Christchurch will launch on Sunday their annual overseas aid Christmas appeal. The appeal, which has been running for 30 years, is suppo. d bv 11 member churches of the National Council of Churches. These include Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist. Salvation Army, Church of Christ, and Congregational churches. This year’s appeal will concentrate on aid for Vietnamese refugees. West African slum dwellers, Solomon Islanders under urban pressures, and Hong Kong rooftop squatters. The appeal provides assistance for people who suffer in floods, earthquakes, famines, and political disasters. It also provides money for rural development projects and vocational training in under-developed countries.
