“Down Under the Plum Trees”
Sir, — I was very disappointed to read Evelyn Aitken’s letter in “The Press” (November 24), regarding the Southland Education Board banning the book, “Down Under the Plum Trees.” Staid and nar-row-minded thinking such as this will lead New Zealand’s youth into the harbouring of a permissive society. I think this publication as a text book in schools has great educational value because it promotes awareness and Understanding of the many social influences which are going on around us and play a great, part in- the life of today’s youth. — Yours, etc., GERALD DUNCAN DYER. G. DYER. November 25, 1977.
