Wapiti trophies in demand
The annua! rush for permits to join . the Wapiti trophy shoot in Fiordland National Park has started. Park staff usually receive hundreds of applications for the limited number of permits, and the lucky shooters are chosen by ballot. Applications are already flowing in for next year’s shoot — to be held front April 2 to April 15. The Wapiti area of the park will be divided into 19 blocks. Only four shooters will be allowed on each block, and no more than 76 permits will be issued. Early applicants would be able to select the blocks of their preference, said the Fiordland National Park Board’s noxious animals ranger (Mr J. P. Gordon). The limit of one head per rifle would be strictly enforced, Mr Gordon said.
