Origins of social problems
Sir, — Commissioner Burnside has served the community a timely valid reminder that the permissive attitudes which pervade and pervert even the once highly esteemed exponents of law and order will, if not checked, lead to decadence and anarchy requiring the carrying of firearms for self defence. The recent brutal attacks on small girls should arouse society sufficiently now from its lethargy to take heed of the visionary ideals to which individuals should aspire. Our Mayoress, Mrs Hay, has called for the integrity which is the fundamental requisite for a reformed society. Mr Bert Walker is also giving a lead in the right direction towards a realistic attitude in common with Mr Burnside’s approach to the increasing crime and lawlessness. A return to parental awareness of childrens’ vulnerable plight would go a long way to preventing the growing incidence of abhorrent acts. — Yours, etc.,
