Cathedral Square architecture
Sir, -— The addition of yet another concrete monstrosity to the skyline of Cathedral Square must hurt the eyes and feelings of all whc value beauty. It will also further decrease the value of the Square as a tourist attraction and earner of tourist dollars. It calls out loud that designs for buildings in places of public interest, at least, should be competed for by architects, this with , a view to maintaining the character of the city. Let us remember architect Bevan’s warning implying that Christchurch is fast losing its beauty and identity to commercial interests. — Yours, etc.,
E. ABRAHAMSON. Amberley, November 10, 1977.
