Tycoon’s son expelled

NZPA Gordonstoun (Scotland) Constantine Niarchos, son of the Greek shipping tycoon, Mr Stavros Niarchos, has been expelled from the exclusive Gordonstoun School for possession of marijuana, the school has said.

Lord Leven, chairman of the board of governors at the school where the Queen’s two youngest sons are students confirmed reports that Constantine was one of six students expelled for having marijuana. Constantine, aged 15, who is reported to be due to inherit $72 million on his twenty-first birthday was flown home in a jet owned by the Niarchos company. None of the six expelled students was in the same class as Prince Andrew, aged 17, and Prince Edward aged 13, and Buckingham Palace said the Queen’s sons were not involved in the affair.

Prince Philip and Prince Charles are former pupils of the private school, which is noted for its spartan living standards and stress on individuality and character training.

The local police said no official action has been taken on the matter.
