Ready-made reserve

From JOHN BROOKS Permission has been sought from the French Rugby Federation for Brian Hegarty to join the All Black party as a reserve for the game in Angouleme on Wednesday morning (New Zealand time). Hegarty is a 25-year-old former Petone and Wellington wing who has played for the Biarritz club in southwest France for three years.

The New Zealand manager, Mr Ron Don, said the addition of Hegarty to the reserves had been sought because of the injury to Bryan Williams. After the Angouleme match, the position would be reviewed. The All Blacks have another ready-made reserve on hand in the event of further mishap. He is Mark Sayers, a former Wellington and New Zealand second fiveeighths who flew in from l

Port Elizabeth, where he plays for the Crusaders club, to watch the tests. Mr Don said there was no thought of approaching him at present. Late last night it was officially announced that Hegarty had been added to the All Black party. Mr Don said he would act as a reserve for the Angouleme match and would be considered for the second test along with all other fit players.
