Strong rally on London market

Share prices on the London Stock Exchange made a strong recovery last week, and rose more than 5 per cent to once again break through the magic 500-bar-rier on the F.T. index.

However, volumes on most days were low, depressed by the electricity workers’ pay dispute and the threat of the firemen’s strike.

A bull point was the news that the coalminers had agreed to further talks, postponing the likelihood of a confrontation with the Government on their pay claim. The announcement by P and O that the company was to issue 6.25 million shares
