Sly Brewer set for win in Ollivier Stakes

By G. K. YULE A sixth in the New Zealand Free-for-all on Friday, even though he was some distance from the winner, Balgove, entitles Sly Brewer to serious consideration in the Ollivier Stakes at Addington Raceway tomorrow.

Three days earlier Sly Brewer paced a splendid race to beat all but Sapling in the Canterbury Junior Free-for-all. With just avera'ge luck in this mile race, he should be a top chance, especially as he has drawn so favourably at No. 5. He could come in to No. 4 should Loyal Drift not reenter the field.

Rocky Trvax did little over the last 200 m of the free-for-all on Tues ay, finishing a disappointing eighth. His earlier form was much better and he must be given another chance.

Sapling found the pace much too strong in the big free-for-all on Friday in

i what was his second start I for the season. He should be la much better horse tomorrow and with a reasonable run from the second line, he [should be in the money. For a time after she was knocked down in last Tuesday’s Junior Free-for-all, it seemed as though Helen of Tara might never race again. However, the injuries have been found to be minor and she worked satisfactorily at the week-end. Helen of Tara was travelling like an almost certain place-getter last Tuesday until she was knocked down. She has drawn very wide, and could need luck to secure a reasonable run

from the awkward mile I starting point. However, she! is too good to leave out of! calculations in this type oi race.

There was also support for Ganya (another knocked down in Tuesday’s race), Nimble Yankee and Longfellow Deeds, all of which are fit horses at present. Best Bet, Easton Light and Waipounamu form a likely trio in the second leg, the Greyhound Handicap.
