F.E.I jumping
HORSES
Aldergrove, ridden by Jill Woodham (Christchurch) won the Ballantyne Grand Prix with a brilliant display of jumping to have a clear second round after four faults in the first. The long course of 15 numbered obstacles, including a treble and two doubles, posed problems for a number of horses, one rider even having a sudden ducking in the waterjump. There was only one clear first round, Cornishman ridden by Bruce Anderson (Southland), and five had four faults. In the second round, the horses with the highest number of faults went first, thus keeping the competition alive by the only clear round jumping last. Cornishman collected 12 faults to take second place. Third equalw ith 16 faults were Mrs S. Cromle's Glenmist and Miss J. Cresswell’s Freddy. PONIES
Tom Thumb, ridden by Brendon Smith (Kalkoura) scored a good win in the A and B grade pony table A2. when he jumped the only clear round of the five contestants in the first jumpoff. Second equal with four faults in the jump-off were Jan Sutherland’s Nyjinskey and Geoffrey Heard’s Expertise.
