‘No squash breach’
PA linvercargill The New Zealand Squash Rackets Association does not think the Gleneagles agreement will be breached by the playing in this country of two South Africans in an eight-man professional team. This was spelt out yesterday by the president of the association, Mr M. P. Fenton, of Invercargill.
The troupe, organised by an Australian entrepreneur, Mr Owen Emslie, is currently playing in Australia, where the Government’s attitude had been that the Gleneagles agreement had not been breached, he said.
“The New’ Zealand Squash Rackets Association is, therefore, of the same opinion.” Mr Fenton said. The association had new;tiated with Mr Emslie, of Medowen Promotions, who hrfcl undertaken, after roonsorship had been arranged, to contract eight of the top world professionals from his group of contracted professionals to play in the New Zealand Open at North Shore. “It now appears that two of the eight players in the troupe are South Africans,” Mr Fenton said. "This was not known to the association previously."
