C.B.H.S. scrapes to cricket win
Christchurch Boys’ High School narrowly won its annual cricket match with Waitaki Boys’ High School by six wickets with two overs to spare at Straven Road yesterday. Resuming at 36/1, in its second innings, Waitaki batted through to the middle of the afternoon before being all out for 272.
Christchurch required 151 in around 100 minutes to win and, aided by some loose bowling, reached the target with the loss of four wickets.
Christchurch also won the second XI fixture, by two wickets. After dismissing Waitaki for 81 in its second innings, Christchurch needed 61 to win. At 55/4 it seemed to be coasting but somehow managed to lose four wickets for the addition of only two runs.
Christchurch made it a clean sweep with a crushing 21-0 win in the tennis contest. The team of Stuart Chalmers, Rhett Mason, Alastair and Douglas Chapman and Steven Chambers was too strong for the Waitaki side and rarely gave the visiting team a look in. Scores.—
