‘Sextuplet near death’

NZPA The Hague One of the sextuplets born in Leiden on September 18 is close to death but the other five babies are progressing well, United Press International reported. A spokesman for the Leiden University Hospital said that baby Dennis Nijssen’s condition was “still very i critical.”

Dennis, one of two boys and four girls born to Mrs Corrie Nijssen, was reported to be suffering from an intestinal infection earlier last week.

The infection spread throughout his body and was complicated by breathing problems. The remaining five babies were reported to be in “very good condition.” : Mrs Nijssen, who gave | birth to the sextuplets after taking hormone treatments, .returned home last Thursday ■and the next day celebrated her twenty-eighth birthday with family and friends.
