MALL TO SERVE 40,000

Situated in the centre of a fast growing residential and industrial area in the Paparua County, the Hornby Mall will, serve the area within its threemile radius — a population of more than 40,000. Hornby’s present shopping centre will look very different when developments are completed. The present shopping centre is bisected bv State Highway One and by the railway lines.

The main shopping area is west of the railway lines and the highway runs almost directly through the town centre. Until now, shops and banks were spread evenly on both sides of the town but with the development of the mall the northern end of Hornby becomes the dominant retail area.

The main West Coast highway, the Akaroa highway and the Main South Road and the northern bypass converge on Hornby

so the new mall will be easily accessible from Prebbelton, Tai Tapu, Leeston, Lincoln, Rolleston, Burnham, Kirwee, Sockburn, Avonhead, Russley and Yaidhurst, Islington and Templeton.

When Stage Two of the Homby Mall is opened, planned for FebruaryMarch next year, the town will also have the largest supermarket in the South Island, a department store, a licenced restaurant, offices for professional practices and a conference room. There is quite a large demand for office space in the town and there has also been a suggestion that a medical centre may be set up there. There is a possibility too that with future expansion of the central retail area a multi storey car park may be built. The nearest shopping centres are the Riccarton Mall, 4.75 miles away and the Northlands Mall at Papanui, seven miles away.
