Authority's allocation overspent
Wellington reporter The Water and Soil Conservation Authority overspent its 1976-77 allocation by more than SIM, according to its annual report to Parliament. It spent $20,656,000 during the year, but was helped by an extra allocation of SI.BM by the Government in December last year. Its biggest expenditure was for river control and drainage works, .$6,343,000, while administration cost $2,332,000. The investigation and construction of irrigation schemes cost $3,990,000. Catchment control works cost $2,254,000; the maintenance and working of existing irrigation schemes, $956,000: soil conservation works and reserves, $1,802,000; surveys, $1,167,000; and research $1,812,000.
