New lifting records set
John Gousmett. of Canterbun-, set three new national iecora> in the south Island power-lifting championship*, held in Dunedin recently.
His new marks were 200 kg for the squat. 240 kg dead Utt. and a 552.5 kg total in the light heavyweight section. Gousmett', bench press was 112.5 kg.
Although unplaced, Kevin Coyne i-*6skg> and lan Blaue, (405 kg both of Canterbuiy. achieved personal best totals in the middle heavy-weight division. Results:—
Light-weight: M. Edward (Otago), squat 180 kg. bench press 97.5 kg, dead lift 232.5 kg—total 510 kg; G. White (Canterbury), 100. 75. 100—275. Middle-weight: K. Webby (Marlborough), 195, 110, 230—535. Light heavy-weight: J. Gousmett (canterbury), 200, 112.5, 240—552.5; M. van Keuhen (Canterbury), 135, 92.5, 212.5 —440. Middle heavy-weight: T. leti (Marlborough), 200, 165, 235—600; M. McLaughlin (Otago), 200, 120, 215—535. 100 kg class: M. Condon (Canterbury), 192.5, 152.5, 250— 595. Heavy-weight: J. Burbrey (Otago), 150, 150, 180—480.
