Now that the national table tennis championships have been; completed, the main local inter- • est centres on the probable | “final of the A-grade inter-club: competition between A\onside I and Riccarton I. On Wednesday evening, the seventeenth round of matches was played and. predictably, both • these teams won their matches. |- Avonside I beat Avonside II,;. 10-2. with Michael Clasper tilling in for Barry Radford in the Avonside II side. Mike Warren picked up a ' singles win over Hany Redmond. 21-4. 21-18 Warren and Clasper beat Redmond and Les Stewart ’in a doubles match. 21-17, 19-21. 21Riccarton 1 beat Avonside IV. 8-4. The Avonside team had a newcomer to inter-dub play. Linda Jekei. a Franklin player who competed at the national championships last week. She also managed to achieve the commendable feat of beating Canterbury’s top-ranked player. Wayne Adamson. 21-10. 21-18 Stephen Adamson also lost a match, to Richard Dixon. 21-8. 22- but recovered to beat John Yang in three games John Armstrong won his three singles matches hut ended up on the losing 'ide in both his i doubles matches.
University beat Dallington, 7-5,. tin a close contest, the winning • margin coming with the tinal : doubles match. Yee Chow Boi. the Canterbury: captain, was taken to three games by both Denis Kalin and! Graham Condliffe and Richard: Tan lost all his three matches,, being beaten by Fred Fisher and Kalin in straight games.
