Hockey invitations
Two invitations to international tournaments were received by the New Zealand Hockey Association this week. Both were referred by the management committee to the New Zealand coach, (Brian Maunsell). The first was from the Bermuda Hockey Association to compete in a tournmanet en route to the world cup in Argentina next March. The tournament could be used to warm-up for the world cup but travel costs in getting to Bermuda could be prohibitive. The second invitation was to an international tournament to be held in
Perth in April, 1979. A number of top hockey nations have been invited. The invitation was accepted in principle by the management committee and forwarded to Mr Maunsell and the competitions committee for their comments. The mid-week matches during the week-long tour by the Australian team later this month have been finalised. Australia will play the New Zealand invitation team at Palme r s t o n North on September 13 and Wellington at Wellington on September 15. New Zealand will play the invitation team at Wanganui on September 14.
