Parliament's diary

Parliament sat 40 minutes later than usual at 3.10 p.m. yesterday after members had attended a Parliamentary luncheon in honour of the Speaker of the Korean National Assembly (Dr Chung-il Kwon).

Dr Chung and three members of the Korean National Assembly were welcomed on to the floor of the House. Mr J. R. Harrison (Nat., Hawke’s Bay) was appointed Acting Speaker in the absence of the Speaker (Sir Roy Jack).

The Acting Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) and the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mr Tizard) both wished Sir Roy a speedy and complete recovery. Mr J. L. Hunt (Lab., New Lynn) presented the petition of P. E. Bloomer praying for relief on behalf of the member of Parliament for Napier (Mr G. Christie).

The annual reports of Air New Zealand and the National Water and Soil Conservation Authority were tabled.

Members gave notice of seven notices of motion. Ministers answered 19 questions. Members then debated Ministerial replies to questions and private members notices of motion until the 5.30 p.m. dinner adjournment.

When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., the Counties Amendment Bill, the Development Finance Corporation Amendment Bill (No. 2), the Carter Observatory Amendment Bill, and the Reserves Bill were given second readings.

The House adjourned at 10.27 p.m.
