Actor hits back

PA London. The British actor. Derek Bond — who plays Hunter in the series “Callan” on

television — was resting today after beating off two youths who attacked him on a late-night train. Bond, aged 57, a former Grenadier Guards officer, who won the Military Cross during a war-time North African patrol, dislocated a finger and suffered two black eyes in the incident. Bond was in Norwich to play a judge in Terence Rattigan’s play “The Deep Blue Sea.”

“You can’t spend five years in the Brigade of Guards and not learn a

thing or two.” said Bond. "I had just finished my two performances at Norwich and had settled down in the first-class section with my sandwiches and a glass of whisky. “Fortunately, a German tourist came to my aid before the police got there. It was licky the train had not moved off.” He added: “Needless to say, I didn’t get the train back after I was allowed out of hospital. I lured a car. and did not get home until 530 this morning.” The police said later that a man had been charged with causing actual bodily harm, and would appear in court on October 11.
