People losing confidence
A drop in the level of economic confidence since May, accompanied by a decline in the level of social confidence, was recorded in July by the National Research Bureau Confidence Index. The index is compiled from measurements taken by the National Research Bureau of the public’s feelings about the present and future social and enation, and about present and future xocial and en-
vironmental conditions in New Zealand. Bi-monthly surveys are taken among 2200 randomly selected persons 15 and over. Index values of 0 to 49 reflect pessimism, and values of 51 to 100 optimism. The July reading showed economic confidence to be relatively highest among males, 15 to 24-year-olds, and inthe Wellington provincial
area, and relatively lowest among females, 35 to 44-year-olds, and in the Dunedin provincial area. Social confidence was relatively highest among males, 15 to 24-year-olds and in the Dunedin provincial area, and relatively lowest among females, 55-year-olds and older, and in the Dunedin City area. — Copyright “New Zealand Herald.”
