Sponsorship for this seaIson’s series has been increased from SSOOO to $6500. The breeder of the winner of each of the eight races will receive S2OO and the owner of the series winner will re-' ceive a cheque for S3OOO and a S6OO trophy. The balance will provide for individual I presentations to the winners’! connections and the presentation dinner at the conclusion of the series. The distance of three of the first four races in the series will be 1400 m. The in-' itial contest will be the; SSOOO Geraldine Challenge, Stakes at Orari on October 15, followed by the South-; land Racing Club’s $4000; Ascot Park Stakes at In-1 vercargill on November 22.
j The fillies will race for a j 53750 stake in the fourth race of the series, the Gore ‘ Racing Club’s Princess Mellay Stakes on February 6. I then they will be tried at ' 1600 m for the second time in the $4150 Otago Mannequin Stakes at the Otago Racing Club's meeting on February 25. The richest race of the series will be the Nelson Jockey Club’s Newmans Holiday Challenge Stakes. This 2000 m event on the third day of the meeting on March 3 carries a stake of $7500. It will be back to 1600 m again for the seventh race of the series, the North!
Canterbury Racing Club’s $4200 Inglewood stakes at Rangiora on March 20, and the final race in the 'series will be the $6OOO Warstep Stakes, a 2000 m j event on the final day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s ! Easter meeting at Riccarton ion April 1. ! The points system for the ; series, which is open to any [New Zealand-bred three- ; year-old filly, will be seven for first in the 1400 m and 1600 m races and eight for first in the 2000 m events. The minor place-getters over jail distances will receive (three points for second and one for third. — Young trotters to <|iuilifv The winners of races for i two-year-old trotters carryling a minimum stake of ($5OO will in future be deemed to have qualified I This was decided by the executive of the Trotting Conference at a meeting held in Christchurch on Friday. The executive decided that winners only would be qualified in events which did not carry a handicapping penalty so long as they carried a minimum stakes.
