Rough justice for lateness
On* Christchurch player, Kelvin Duff (Christchurch 8.H3.1, has been named In the New Zealand secondaryschools' basketball team which will make a brief New Zealand tour next week. Duff was chosen after two days of trials In Christchurch but another local candidate, Peter ("PJ.") Ward, was not so lucky. After scoring 138 points for Bumside High School in the New Zealand schools' championship, he was told he was not wanted by the selector-
cosch (Mr P. Schmidt, of Auckland) whan he arrivad late for the second day of the trials. It seemed rough justice for a player who was considered certain of selection. Ward had been working a milk round and this had taken a little longer than he had hoped. But Mr Schmidt took the view that all the other players had arrived on time, and If Ward could not. It was "too bad." The team of 10 Is:— Wayne Vaegg (Auckland Grammar), John Dainty
(Southland 8.H.5.), Tolu Flnau (Church College), Noel Pilcher (-Kaikoral Valley H.S.), Lester Soloqi (Church College), Peina Smith (Church College), Qulncey Ahmu (Church College), David Ruha (Papakura H.S.), Kelvin Duff (Christchurch 8.H.5.), Pita Thompson (Auckland Grammar). The team's first match will be against Nelson on Saturday. It will play Marlborough on Sunday and Wellington Marlst, Hutt Valley juniors. Palmerston North, and New Plymouth on succeeding days.
