Snow helps race slope
Two and a half centimetres of fresh snow at Mount Hutt helped officials yesterday in the preparation of the downhill course for next week’s Air New Zealand-Mount Hutt international ski-ing series. Mr Richard Johnson, chairman of the organising committee, said the course was smooth, hard, and fast at present. Safety gates were erected yesterday and racers will have their first day's training on Monday. The downhill race will not be held until Thursday but the series will be officially opened three days earlier by i Sir Henry Wigley. Also speaking at the opening function, to be held in the Mount Hutt cafeteria, will be the president of the Ski) Association (Mr I. A. Bor-! rin) and the chairman of the' Mount Hutt Ski and Alpine Tourist Company (Mr Pi Yeo-! man).
