Uranium shares slump
Opinions differ among stockbrokers on why uranium shares slumped so badly on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Reasons include overnight: London selling, the possi-1 bility of share issues to raise development funds and: 1 the long-term uncertainties: ; created by political and ! union opposition. Pancontinental fell 170 c to 960 c, Queensland Mines 50c to 250 c, Kathleen Investments dropped 19c to 165 c, Peko 50c to 500 c, E.Z. Industries 11c to 275 c, while ocean resources was down 7c to 23c after going ex dividend on Thursday. Western Mining fell 11c to 127 c with the nickel mining staff sackings contributing to the fall. Consolidated Gold Fields closed steady at 195 c despite its losses but most other miners were down on the day including the tin mines. Renison, which fell 6c to 540 c. The industrials looked firmer at the end of trading with B.H.P. up 2c to 572 c, A.C.I. 1c to 153 c, and the Bank of N.S.W. 2c to 480 c.
