Gavade stars at Awapuni
i Special correspondent Palmerston North I Gavade looked good in his ■final trial at Awapuni | yesterday morning w hen he [partnered Peteken ovet 11000 m. These two are rival candidates for the Robinson Handicap at Foxton. On the course proper, Gavade and Peteken ran 1000 m, finishing clear of Totara Park which could not foot it with them at the end. The; 1000 m took Imin 6.85, the i last 600 mm 39.85. Gavade has a good record at Foxton. 1 | Secretin beat Shiloh over 1800 m in 51.65, the last 600 m in 38.6 s with Secretin 'galloping right away from Ids rival at the finish. Secretin shows promise but is badly drawn at Foxton. [ Gay Chief beat Dharwar (by a wide margin over 1600 m, the last 1200 m in Imin 245, the last 600 m in 425. Gold Foil, a top maiden chance at Foxton, had no [trouble in beating Greyfern -over 800 m in 555, the lasi ,600 m in 425. Forty Carat 'ran easily over 800 m in 57.65, the last 600 m in 425. | I Sweet I.ace ran an easy 'Boom in 535, the last 600 m, in 40s and I elvin Lass shaded Shahrizah over 800 m in 52.45, the last 600 m in 38.45.
| Kutati and Twain ran 1000 m in Imin Bs, the last > 600 m in 41s but both wilt i benefit from racing in the ■ Robinson Handicap. [ Battle Treaty was more [ impressive than Count Lo--1 gier at the end of 800 m, in ' 545, the last 600 m in 40.4 s and Markless ran 600 tn in 395. Kirressive showed speed in galloping 800 m in 525, the final 600 m in 38s. On the plough, Shahray and King Canute ran 800rr» ,in 51s, the last 600 m in 38s , and Star Trail ran 600 m easily in 39.45. Sir Desmond ran an easy 1000 m. the last 800 m in 54.5 s and the 600 m in 395. Gold Reign and Chumson I were matched over 1600 m, /running home strongly. . Chumson is at his best for the Pakuranga Hunt Cup. Sea Legs was timed over 600 m in 41s and Miss Me and Itinerant Trader covered the same distance in 375. Dandy Andy worked keenly over two rounds and has a chance in the Steeples at iFoxton. St Helena recorded 38.4 s for 600 m and Surrey Park again impressive, shading Credit Note at the end of 1000 m in Imin 2.45, the last 600 m in 38s.
