Pensioner housing
Sir, — The Coles Place pensioner cottage project has problems for those with limited incomes who appreciate law and order. It is futile to employ numerous trained welfare officers if they fail to establish empathy with tenants, but confidence could increase if everyone knew that future directors of housing and health council departments would be courteous people combining technical expertise with sensitivity. The real need is for practical married couples as wardens, or part-time wardens; men and women of proven integrity living in homes close to council tenants, to be turned to and trusted. — Yours, etc.,
THELMA WALLACE. August 25, 1977.
