Govt displeased
NZPA Edmonton The New Zealand Government had strongly protested against a plan by a few individual rugby players to visit South Africa, said the New Zealand Deputy High Commissioner and Counsellor (Mr B. H. Brooks) in Canada yesterday. “Our Government is more than displeased that the trip will revive the threat of an African boycott of the 1978 Comrnon-
wealth Games here,” Mr Brooks said. “The New Zealand Government hopes that the African nations will feel that the players are going personally, that rugby is not included in the Olympic Games or the Commonwealth Games, and that they will want to avoid boycotts to other countries,” he said. There was no question of a national New Zealand team’s going to South Africa, Mr Brooks said.
