N.Z.-BREDS DO WELL
NZPA Sydney New Zealand-bred horses starred at the Sydney Turf Club’s Winter Cup meeting at Rosehill on Saturday, winning three races and filling the first two places in the feature event. The $lO,OOO Winter Cup was won by the Zamazaan gelding, Clear Day. ridden by the top apprentice. Malcolm Johnston, from Current Issue (StunningHappy Return) and Moogra-Ba, in a race record of 2min 35.55ec.
Other New Zealand-bred winners were Tahis (Greek God— Ribot Top) in the 1300 m Jiandra Handicap for fillies and mares, and Star Dragon (Sharivari— Sooom) in the 1500 m Kusciusko Welter.
The 2400 m Winter Cup win by Clear Day was a popular one. Despite noor recent form over shorter distances. Clear Day was weß backed as the 7/2 second favourite to Green’s Pride, which finished seventh of nine starters.
