Fiji Govt defeated in House
NZPA Suva Fiji’s minority Alliance Government yesterday suffered defeat in the House of Representatives in a crucial vote. As a result, the Prime Minister (Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara) is expected to ask the Governor-General (Ratu Sir George Cakobau) to dissolve Parliament for a fresh General Election within three months. The Alliance Government sought a vote of confidence when the House began sitting last week for the second time since the March-April General Election. But the Opposition National Federation Party put an amendment calling for the installation of itself as the Government.
The Opposition amendment was passed yesterc ty by 26 votes to 23 and the Alliance motion lapsed.
