Coastal survey completed

The Lands and Survey Department has completed a survey of coastal areas in Waipara County and Cheviot County which have potential as public reserves. The Assistant Commissioner of Crown Lands in Christchurch (Mr J. E. Friel) said that the survey classified areas of regional and national significance, and put them in order according to the urgency required for action to preserve them.

They were flip first to be completed in Canterbury, and were part of a general survey of coastline, he said. Local authorities were being asked to co-operate by designating areas as proposed reserves in their district schemes.
