Home-made ‘coffee’
Sir, —Your readers may be interested in the home-made coffee recipe (from the war years) which I revived last week with success. To two cups of oatmeal and one cup of cooking bran, well-mixed, add one small cup of golden syrup or treacle, depending on taste. Bake slowly in a flat dish, stirring occasionally until the mixture is coffeecoloured and crisp. The "grounds” may be percolated or, simmered in water. • — Yours, etc..
LORNA ANKER. May 30, 1977.
