N.Z. tennis players on form
NZPA London New Zealand plavers acquitted themselves well"in the first round of. the Surrey tennis championships at Surbiton yesterday.
In the men's singles, six of seven New Zealanders competing won their matches, while the seventh. J. Reeder, put up a good fight before he went down to England’s F. Field 6-7. 6-7.
The successful New Zealand players and their results were: M. Elley beat M. Dake (Canada), 6-0. 6-0; S. Harley beat J. Reeves (England*. 7-5. 6-0: D. Mustard beat K. Inch (England), 6-3. 6-3; J. Harvey beat M Pilgrim (Australia). 6-3. 3-0 retired: I. Harris beat M. Dawe (England* 6-7, 6-2. 6-3; M. Mooney beat T. Ferrier (England). 6-3. 6-4.
In the women’s singles, D. Scott (N.Z.) had an easv win over C. Whitehead 'England), 6-2. 6-1. while two other New Zealand women competing lost their matches. C. Newton lost to J. Preyer i United States), 3-6. 7-6. 3-6. and B. Perrv lost to Scotland’s K. Woldridg'e. 2-6. 0-6.
